Faculty Transcript

Kathy Durling: My name’s Kathy Durling, and I’m the program director for the Medical Assistant program here at LBCC. I teach in all the Medical Assistant programs in Business Technology.

Rick Durling: My name is Rick Durling, and I mainly work in the Medical Assistant program, and the Administrative Medical Assistant program, and the Medical Office Specialist program.

Jerry Coe: Good morning, my name is Jerry Coe, and I teach for the Business Tech department, and I work with Rick and Kathy Durling in the Medical Assistant program.

KD: We are part of a two-year program that’s accredited through the American Association of Medical Assistants.

JC: We have one of the best programs in the nation. We routinely finish in the top 3% of all programs in the United States.

KD: Students score really high on the national exam.

RD: I think the idea of somebody coming here looking for new skills and new knowledge and being able to leave with a new career is pretty exciting.

KD: If you look at the employment statistics, medical assistant is right up there at the top. The market is ripe for medical assistants because of the changes in healthcare. The medical industry is changing so dramatically. And I feel like we and Business Technology are trying to go as fast or faster than the national level. I have a unique perspective when it comes to medicine: my husband and I own a medical office in Corvallis. And so we are in the midst of all the changes in medicine that are going on.

JC: And if you are somebody who would like to join our amazing team of graduated students, then I encourage you to contact myself or Rick or Kathy Durling at some point and find out more about the program, because we would love to have you on board.

RD: Have a great year, and if you’re in one of my programs, come by and say hi. Because that’s the only way I’m going to get to know who you are, and that’s the only way I’m going to be able to help you. See you soon.
