Program Overview Transcript
LBCC’s Diagnostic Imaging program uses a progressive, outcomes-based format to prepare students. Instruction consists of lecture, lab work, and clinical internships. The program is designed to train students according to worldwide standards, preparing them to successfully complete an internationally recognized certification exam.
This intensive program is designed to be completed in 22 months, starting in the summer and running through March. The first three terms consist of full-time coursework, while the last four terms focus on clinical work. Students should be prepared to devote 40 hours per week to this program, in addition to time spent on homework outside of class.
Admission to this program is a competitive process, as the program only accepts as many students as there are clinical slots for. The students will move through this program as a cohort. For more details on how admission is determined, see the program bulletin. Distance Education students will be chosen according to their partner college’s selection process.
The DI program is based in Lebanon, OR. Clinical sites are assigned randomly, and could be located in a variety of cities around Oregon. Students are responsible for their own travel and housing arrangements and costs.
Students will be expected to follow and adhere to program regulations. First and foremost, you must be able to pass a background check. All healthcare providers and facilities require criminal background checks for all of their employees, including any student who wishes to work there. You may need to undergo a background check at several times throughout the program, and you will be responsible for absorbing the costs each time. If you have been charged with or convicted of a misdemeanor or felony, you may not be eligible to sit for the certification exam following graduation. If you have questions, you should contact the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (the ARRT) to check your eligibility before applying for admission to this program.
You must pass a drug test. Immunizations and a CPR card are required prior to the start of term, at an additional cost to you. You need to have completed all of the Associate of Applied Science general education requirements before you can apply to the DI program specifically. Once you have been admitted, you must maintain 75% or better in all courses to continue in the program. You’ll need to wear a uniform during your clinical internships, and finally, you must practice professional behavior in class, in lab, in your clinical sites, and at any time you represent LBCC’s DI program.
In order to participate in the program, you must have access to an upgraded computer and high-speed Internet. You need to be comfortable using the web and be able to read and print online documents. You will need to have an email account, a webcam, and a computer microphone, and be prepared to use all of these regularly. You will also need to be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
This program is eligible for financial aid. To determine if you are eligible, you must fill out a FAFSA form and list LBCC as a receiving school. Financial aid is limited by some restrictions, so you may need to contact the Financial Aid office to discuss your options. For more information, contact LBCC’s Financial Aid office or view the DI program bulletin.
If you successfully complete LBCC’s DI program and graduate with your associate degree, you will be eligible and prepared to sit for the ARRT certification exam, which is recognized by all fifty states and many foreign countries. If you pass the exam, you will be ready to work in an entry-level Diagnostic Imaging position.
